Coalition Letter to the Uniform Law Commission Regarding the Uniform Personal Data Protection Act

Issue Date: July 01, 2021

US _ ____ - Uniform Personal Data Protection Act

On July 1 NAR along with over forty business organizations signed on to a letter to the Uniform Law Commission. The letter expresses the signatories' serious concerns about the ability of state legislatures to enact the proposal due to enforcement provisions already rejected by some states. It is crucial that any uniform state privacy bill promote harmonization. Despite many laudable improvements to the substance of the draft before the Commission, the proposed Uniform Personal Data Protection Act (“UDPA”) discourages uniformity through its enforcement provisions.
