NAR Response to Rep. Waters AI RFI

On August 14, 2026, NAR responded to a request for information from House Financial Services Committee Democrats regarding a federal policy framework for artificial intelligence. NAR urged Congress to adopt a light-touch federal framework that promotes responsible AI development, innovation, transparency, privacy, and cybersecurity; preserves existing consumer protection, fair housing, and civil rights laws; and places responsibility for AI system defects on the developers and deployers with the knowledge, visibility, and control to prevent those harms, rather than on small-business end users such as real estate professionals.
